Hiya, I'm Joe, I'll be crewing on this ride. This'll be my third Coast to Coast. I absolutely love it! My favourite ride is day 1 where we ride Lake District, through Lorton, up Whinlatter Pass and down into Keswick for lunch. I’ve ridden it in both good weather and in bad and the views of the mountains are always breathtaking!

Hiya, my name is Rosie. I'm from Tynemouth, the beautiful seaside town where the C2C ride finishes (and where the Fish Shack is!). I know this route so well and am incredible excited to share it all with you. It’s stunning! My favourite day is day 2 when we climb up over Hartside Pass, eat lunch in Garrigill and cycle over the Pennines to the youth hostel (which is conveniently locates above a lovely pub).

Retreat Itinerary

Day 0

Arrival day! You'll need to arrive on Thursday night ideally by 6pm into Whitehaven train station—keep an eye out for Brake the Cycle's 'not so discreet' support vehicle. You'll be added to a WhatsApp group with everyone attending the trip to facilitate meeting at the station. We'll be staying at Summergrove Halls—just outside Whitehaven—in private single rooms, ensuring that our first night sleep is a good one for the morning's adventures!

Day 1

After a restful night and a hearty breakfast you'll head back down to Whitehaven Habour for the traditional dipping of the back wheel into the Irish Sea. Then you're off! Your first day's ride will take you through the stunning Lake District. You'll be aiming to meet the van for lunch in Keswick, down past the theatre by the lake. It's an excellent lunch spot and the van will be there preparing a feast. After lunch, the afternoon ride will take you the rest of the way through the Lakes to Penrith. Tonight you'll be getting cosy and connected with nature, staying in boutique wooden glamping pods in an apple orchard. The pods each sleep 4 on single beds, there is a little kitchenette to make yourselves a hot drink, and plenty of warm showers to ensure you're ready for a rest in the wild. We'll dine out at a Mexican restaurant in Penrith.

Day 2

Up early to the sound of the bird song among the orchard, you'll bid goodbye the the Great Lakes and say hello to the hills of the Pennines. Today is a day of two halves; the morning has a lot of climbing as we enter the Pennines. You'll stop for lunch halfway before beginning the long and epic descent out of the Pennines towards the sea. Your destination today is Edumndbyers where you'll be staying in the local hostel in dorms. We'll cook up a storm and raise a glass in the local pub, solidifying new friendships formed.

Day 3

You'll be freewheeling any aches and pains out of your legs this morning as you roll down towards the sea from the height of the Pennines. You'll pass through Newcastle along the Tyne, past the bustling weekend food markets—a great opportunity for a snack! As you pass through Newcastle you'll be following the cycle path all the way to Tynemouth where you'll dip your front wheels in the North Sea at the harbour. Then, you'll be hosted by the incredible Riley's Fish Shack, an award winning sustainable fish restaurant right on the beach, for a late lunch. Don't eat fish? Not to worry, we can sort a veggie/vegan option. Another day done, we'll have time relax on the beach, maybe even going for a dip. The cold water will do your thighs of steel good! After much fanfare and back slapping Brake the Cycle staff will aid with your journey to Tynemouth metro, where you'll be able to get a ride back into Newcastle and be homeward bound. You can book your trains back from 16:30 onwards.
